Calacatta Gold is quarried in the Apuan Mountains near Carrara, Italy. This marble comes from a gallery quarry which means that the quarry is inside the mountain. Because they don’t have to contend with the cold winter weather, this quarry runs year-round. Blocks still need to be moved down the mountain for slab and tile production so during the winter months snow and ice can limit the amount of blocks that the truckers can transport. The roads to this quarry can be treacherous from December to April. Calacatta Gold will always have a creamy white background with taupe/gold veins. If you are using slab and tile on the same project, you will need to approve the color tone before installation.
